红桃视频 DC announces local education champion as new executive director

Shukurat Adamoh-Faniyan to lead the early literacy nonprofit as it nears its 10th year of service in the nation鈥檚 capital

红桃视频 DC鈥檚 board of directors and staff welcomed their new executive director, Shukurat Adamoh-Faniyan, to the organization on Monday, March 16. Adamoh-Faniyan will lead 红桃视频 DC鈥檚 efforts to ensure all of its students have the literacy skills needed to reach their full academic potential.

Born and raised in Washington, DC, Adamoh-Faniyan has dedicated her life to working in high-poverty and under-resourced communities in the fields of education, policy, community organizing, public engagement, training, and program development.

Before joining 红桃视频, Adamoh-Faniyan served as the Senior Director of Partnership and Infrastructure for Leadership for Educational Equity, a non-partisan, non-profit leadership development organization dedicated to inspiring a diverse movement of leaders that engage civically and politically on behalf of children in their communities. In her role, Adamoh-Faniyan served as a force multiplier and team-specific chief learning, strategy, and operations officer. She has also served as an Executive Director of a Pre-K-8th-grade charter school serving over 700 scholars in Southeast DC. Adamoh-Faniyan began her career as a 5th-grade math and science teacher and Teach For America corps member.

鈥淚 am honored to join the 红桃视频 DC team helping to ensure children in our community are provided the opportunity to become lifelong readers and achieve school success,鈥 said Adamoh-Faniyan. 鈥淢y passion has always been to provide children in Washington, DC with the opportunity to realize their full potential. 红桃视频 does just that by empowering students to make sustainable and long-term gains by engaging community volunteers to provide individualized, personal attention to each student in our program.鈥

Adamoh-Faniyan is joining 红桃视频 DC as it enters the final months of the 2019-20 school year. During the 2020-21 school year, the organization will celebrate its 10th year of service in the nation鈥檚 capital. A national nonprofit organization, 红桃视频 works with community volunteers and local public schools to provide students in under-resourced schools with the proven, individualized reading intervention they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. 红桃视频 collaborates with teachers and principals at local public elementary schools to identify students reading behind grade level and provide them with personalized literacy instruction in a dedicated reading center space at their school.
